"From multiplication tables to the way we greet each other, from a game of soccer to the way we maintain our desks clean, from reading a storybook to a field trip… everything that happens in and around school is curriculum".

CURRICULUM

Holistic and true to itself

"e-Gather to Learn" @ RVG MATRIC
OUR FUTURE-READY CURRICULUM
FOR INTERACTIVE ONLINE LEARNING

The general focus of our curriculum, across grades, is on deep understanding of the concepts, application, critical thinking, forming and expressing ideas, mastery of the basic academic and technological skills, life skills, personal leadership, emotional balance and physical wellbeing. A systematic planning and integrated approach to each of these areas ensure that the objectives, broken down to specific graded and age appropriate learning outcomes, are achieved by all the students. Our special method of evaluation supports this holistic approach, assessing every aspect of the student’s growth. While our non threatening attitude and stimulating environment nurture the confidence and curiosity of the children, our rigorous and responsible approach to learning prepares them for the challenges of life.

- Multi-environment, media enabled classrooms and stimulating materials: our KG classrooms are specially planned to support learning. Separate spaces for eating, playing, writing and doing activities help the child understand the ‘norms’ of each space and transition smoothly between them. The classroom furniture, décor and learning materials are specially designed to foster independence and leadership skills. Each classroom is equipped with a computer for media integrated learning (phonics, music and concepts).

- Caring teachers, purposeful play and joyful learning: a loving teacher can do a great deal to create just the right atmosphere for learning! With her brightest smile, an array of purposefully designed activities and individual care, she ensures learning is absolutely joyful!

- Early Program by our knowledge partner X-seed: a professional approach to learning through role play, story-telling, group activities, circle time and discussion to introduce our young ones to a variety of concepts, basic math skills and the beauty of language. Children are prompted to ask, investigate, think, form and express opinions and solve simple problems.

- English Development Program: latest listening, speaking and reading strategies for fast track results with English.

- Tamil Language: a well-planned Tamil curriculum that focuses on listening with understanding and creative oral expression.

- Montessori based fine motor skills development and writing: starting with an array of practical activities that develop basic life skills and finetune their fine motor skills, the children move to tracing and then writing (English and Tamil) without difficulties.

- Art, music and exercise: children who are exposed to colours, beauty, harmonious sounds, rhythm and move around healthily grow up to be the best learners and the happiest adults!

The children are encouraged to deeply discover the content through an experiential approach of activities, guided analyses and application, thus enhancing their understanding and retention in the long term.

- Interactive learning: student-centered teaching methodologies are the core of our teaching-learning process. All students are encouraged to participate actively to the class by an array of tested techniques like jigsaw, think-pair-share, team discussion, group-pair-solo, presentation, etc. Apart from a good grasp of the content matter, this approach ensures the development of the language and communication skills of the children along with their social and emotional skills.

The House System

RVG Matric is a lively, growing, learning and holistic organism. The children from 1st standard onwards are assigned to one of the four houses under the leadership of their house captain and vice-captain (elected students) and the house teachers. Each child earns points for their house by performing well in academics, sports, activities, leadership roles etc. Every year the House with most points is awarded the Overall House Championship.

Apart from instilling a healthy dose of inter-house competitive spirit and team loyalty within the houses, our system carries a strong metaphoric message: if all the four houses do well, the whole school will grow well, exactly like a person becomes more complete when all four realms of her being are well looked after!
